I'm convinced that both the Democratic and Republican congressional leadership have been replaced by blind and stupid aliens. It's the only way to describe it.

I wish I had more at the moment, but work very suddenly became busy!

I guess it is silly for me to post to no one in particular, but someday, someone other then me might read this.

I added the communities I was watching, plus I found one on my choice from '04, Wes Clark. I was holding out hope he could have been the dark horse candidate, and I think he would have a LOT of appeal on the national stage with enough financial backing. Sadly, the Dem establishment got behind another war hero, and Wes didn't stand much of a chance. I do not think he will get the support to make another presidential run, but he could make an excellent VP or Secretary of Defense/State choice.

I also added my first LJ user, [info]boztopia (I hope I did the tag thing right). I was reading the posts in the Clark archive, and his comments were passionate and thought provoking. I went to his journal, and that was even better. I hope he doesn't mind that I have added him to my friends list, I'm not sure if there is an etiquette guide when it comes to to this sort of thing! Hopefuly I will find some more as time goes on.

I should state what my own beliefs are, for the record. I am definitely a Democrat, center-left and Clinton was my political hero. I have a few beliefs that might be considered 'right wing', in particular when it comes to gun ownership and property rights, but otherwise I ride the donkey.

No real substance for this post, but no one is reading anyway.

I have no readers yet, but this space feels rather empty. Let’s fix that!

The confirmation hearings on Judge Sam Alito is the news of the moment, and has made C-SPAN interesting again, if only for a few days. It is said that the ultimate fate of an high profile appointee can be determined just a few days after the announcement, and this one is no different. Alito appears to be headed for a sure-thing confirmation, as was predicted back in November.

Now, I am certainly no Republican, but much of the left’s alarm over Alito is not as dire as it might seem. The ‘right’ of the court will have only 4 members (Alito, Roberts, Scalia, and Thomas) while the moderate to liberal faction will still hold the controlling balance with 5. As much as some media alarmists want to make it sound differently, Roe is in no significant danger.

More interesting, though, is the seeming inability of the Democratic party (as a unit) to mount any sort of organized resistance to Alito. Reid has be a dreadful minority leader, and except for a single , shining moment when he called for the closed session some months back, has not pressed his advantage on Bush’s low numbers...numbers that are starting to recover. Some serious charisma is needed at the top of the party, and soon, if they are serious about taking back the House this year (I do not believe the Senate will be possible, with the current seats that are up).

Not much else for now. I hope those that swing by enjoy this!
